Obituary

Our Heavenly Father called Gary Neil Barton, age 64, of Talpa, home on Monday, November 14, 2022.

Gary was born May 11, 1958, in Brownwood to O’Neil and Jo Ann Barton.  He grew up in Early and Brownwood graduating from Brownwood High School in 1976. Gary had several occupational adventures of which his favorite was GB Construction in Coleman and the surrounding area.  He was Fire Chief of the Valera Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years.

Gary is preceded in death by his father, O’Neil Barton and stepfather, Bobby Jack Snow.

He is survived by his mother, Jo Ann Snow of Brownwood; his best friend, Tonya Stratton of Ingram; three children, Beau Sirois and partner Laura of Early, Colby Stratton and wife Gwen of Talpa, and Kelsey Stratton and Chris Rangel of Kerrville; a special sister, Liz Mayer of Dallas; ten grandchildren; and a host of uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors.

The family will host a time of visitation from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. Following the visitation, family and friends are invited to participate in the funeral procession going to White Chapel Cemetery leaving Stevens Funeral Home at 1:40 p.m. followed by a graveside funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the White Chapel Cemetery.  Mark Smith and Bud Bolton will officiate.  Interment will follow in the White Chapel Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation and thanks to Dr. Hirsch, Walker Cancer Center, Dr. John Horner, Solaris Hospice staff, along with all who said a prayer or did anything to express love for Gary.  God Bless you all.

The pallbearers will be Clint Hughes, David O’Connell, Daniel Hull, Steve Stuart, Lee Bolin, and Davey Black.  Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Owens, John Page, and Rusty Ryan.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Gary to the Valera Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 63, Valera, Texas 76884 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
