COLEMAN - June Olivia Jordan Bowen, 90, of Coleman, died Monday, February 8, 2010 at Coleman Healthcare Center. A Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2010 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 609 South Neches, Coleman, with Father Russell Fisher officiating, assisted by Bishop Sam Hulsey. A visitiation will follow immediately after the service in the Church Hall.
June Olivia Jordan Bowen was born December 12, 1919 in Brady, the daughter of Wilson David Jordan and Ochae Slaughter Jordan. She grew up in Brady and graduated from Brady High School. She attended Lyndonwood College and graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. June married Robert Isaac Bowen, Jr. on October 12, 1941 in Brady. He preceded her in death in January, 1977. She moved to Coleman in 1941. She later moved to Ft. Sam Houston, Huntsville and El Paso while her husband served in the Military, before moving back to Coleman in 1945. June and Robert travelled extensively throughout the United States and made several trips to Europe. She loved volunteering, having worked with the Girl Scouts and helped with the first Girl Scout Cookies that were sold in Coleman. She was an avid supporter of the Texas Longhorns and was a lifetime member of the Texas Exes, member of the Coleman Garden Club, served on the Coleman Library Board, served on the Overall-Morris Hospital Board (now Coleman County Medical Center), was a charter member of the Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where she served in the local and national Diocese.
Survivors include one sister, Beverly Hayden of Santa Fe, New Mexico; one nephew, Julian Howard "Hal" Hayden of Prescott, AZ; one niece, Ann Garcia of El Paso; two great nieces and many friends, including Lois McCarty of Coleman and Netta Wilson of Dallas.
