Peter Sackville Pickard, 82, of Burkett, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Abilene Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2010 at St. Mark's Espicopal Church with The Rev. Russell Fisher officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
Peter Sackville Pickard was born January 1, 1927 in Epping, Essex, England, the son of Harry Sackville Pickard and Keziah Minnie Irene Thomlinson Pickard. He grew up and attended school in England. He immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1948, sailing across the Atlantic on the Queen Mary. He also lived in California, before moving to Burkett in 1990. He married Joan Wakefield in Reno, Nevada in August, 1990. He was a rancher and attended Cowboy Churches.
Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Lavagnino and husband, John, of Watsonville, California, Audrey Pickard Duffell of Dallas; one son, Winthrop Sackville Pickard and wife, Michelle, of Corralitos, California; one sister, Elizabeth Pickard of England; four step-children; seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his caregivers, Tami Strickland and Rex Priddy and his two faithful companions, Jack and Jill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Sackville-Pickard on December 3, 2009; on son, Peter Pickard, Jr.; one sister, Molly Pickard and one brother, John Pickard.
