Thomas A. "Bud" Gatlin, 74, of Coleman, died Saturday, January 2, 2010 in an Abilene hospital. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery with full military honors.
Thomas A. "Bud" Gatlin was born January 30, 1935 in Whitney, Texas, a son of the late Barney Denzil Gatlin and Nellie Sue Watson Gatlin Gleich. He grew up and attended school in Whitney. In 1953 he joined the United States Army and retired as an E8 in 1973, serving with the First Cavalry Division. On December 17, 1971 he married Linda Epperson in Lovington, NM. He lived in many places, including Grosvenor and Whitney, moving to Coleman four years ago. Following his military career, he was an auto mechanic. He was a member of the American Legion and DAV. He attended Cowboy Church.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Gatlin of Coleman; two daughters, Betty Lounell Johns and husband Ronnie of Lucas, Miranda Darleen Hennig of Salado; three sons, Richard A. Gatlin and wife Glenda of Mabank, Terry A. Gatlin of Terrell, Tracy A. Gatlin and wife Deena of Whitney; 18 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Barney Gatlin and wife Linda of Kemp, Freeland Gatlin of Whitney; step-sister, Sybil Robertson of Laguna Park; an aunt, Cloteal Underwood of Olney.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Gatlin; a brother, James T. Gatlin; a sister, Lavalle Jane Wright.
Family visitation will be held on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan, Coleman, Texas.
